A majority of people experience anxiety in varying degrees. Anxiety can come in the form of overthinking, not being able to sit still or waiting for an answer, phone call etc. A restless mind is so intrusive it feels as if the time has stopped and you cannot focus on anything else besides your worries. A great way to tackle this problem is through mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way to view the world through non judging, friendly and factual eyes. It is open attention to the present and awakening to the experience in front of you. Oftentimes our worries and anxieties are based upon judgements and stories we create in our head. We do not realize that we are taking a situation or problem, processing it through our brain and thus interpreting it in a negative way. Mindfulness allows one to look at a situation for what it is, devoid of false facts we believe are true. One must remember that thoughts are not facts, instead they are mental events that pop up in the mind and are dependent on our mood. Next time you feel as if you are on a downward spiral of anxiety and fear, check to see where your head was at the time of that interpretation. Once you start analyzing your anxiety this way, you will notice patterns and what sets you off in the downward spiral. With knowledge one can stop the vicious cycle of anxiety and a restless mind.
Healthy body, healthy mind, happy soul !
