Emotional eating is using food to make oneself feel better, rather than to just fill your stomach. Many of us abuse food and use it as a coping mechanism to deal with stress and emotions or we look at food as a reward. But the really bad part is most of us do not realize that our emotions and everyday struggles are controlling our eating habits. If you often feel like you can’t control yourself around food, you feel powerless, you’re eating fast and you eat till you are beyond stuffed, then you are emotionally eating . The first step to realizing your bad habits is to take note that emotional eating will not make you feel better, but actually make you feel worse and guilty on top of that ! The next step is to realize what triggers your emotional eating, such as situations, places or feelings. Once you have pinpointed your triggers you can begin to find alternative ways to feed your feelings. For example, if you’re bored  read a good book or go outdoors. If you’re anxious go for a fast walk or call a close friend and vent to them. Another way to tackle emotional eating is to focus on yourself. Set up a daily exercise regime and make time for relaxation. If you want to regain control over your life and food, it is better to tackle the issue head on, step by step.
