Oftentimes during our day we don’t find the time to eat, so we either skip a meal or settle for something quick. There are many options out there that portray to be quick healthy snacks, such as smoothies. But when you dig a little deeper you may come to realize they are loaded with sugar and too much fat. Smoothies seem like the perfect quick breakfast to eat on the go or mid day snack, but they pack a lot of calories, sugar from sweetened fruit juice and loads of fat from frozen yogurt. Pre-made smoothies sold at the store aren’t healthy either and have upwards of 28g of sugar per serving. Instead opt to make your own smoothie with nutrient dense ingredients. By incorporating the correct ingredients into your smoothie, you will have increased produce intake, higher fiber intake, more micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals and overall more energy. Adding vegetables with a mild flavor such as spinach, allow you to add two or more servings of vegetables to your smoothie. Instead of throwing in some sweetened fruit juice, opt for coconut water or almond milk.
Healthy body, healthy mind, happy soul!
